               i never told you
                           i needed you, darling,

Elsa paused for a moment where she stood, half way to the door, vision blurred and distorted by the haze of sleep. One hand was on the wall, supporting her, as she attempted to tug her shoe onto her left foot, but she figured he could see as well as her that it wasn’t happening. She was too tired, too sleep deprived; it would take her an hour at least to cross town, even in a taxi and they only had another five hours until they ought to be in the office again.

                              “Are you sure?

Her words were less precise than usual, a little slurred from exhaustion, and on the same strain her decisions weren’t quite what they would usually be. For more reasons than one the idea of staying the night seemed like a pleasant one; more than pleasant, really. Besides, it wasn’t like it could ever be awkward between them. The only real difference between a possibly morning following her sleeping at his place would be that maybe he would come with her to buy his own coffee for once.

                             “A-alright.”

Swaying a little on her feet she placed her shoe back on the floor and stood, removing her hand from the wall and turning to face her partner with a hesitant but sleepy grateful smile. It was nice to know she could rely on him; not just as a partner, but a friend.

                                                           “Thank you, Jūzō.”

♚ —— ❛ YEAH, I’M SURE. ❜ he nodded, pallid arms
raising above his head as he stretched, barely stifling his
yawn as he kicked off his shoes.

It had been a long day. Although killing ghouls in the the 11th ward
took over half the day, what had them thoroughly spent was the
hours of documentation & paperwork that followed, not to mention
the other two ghouls they had run into on the way when he was
walking her home, which lead him to taking her to his place. It
was obvious that they had to stick together & the area around
her house was crawling with ghouls that were possibly the ones
that had escaped the CCG attack.

He was more tired than he looked, considering how scarcely
there was any time to sleep. & he knew that she was most
likely minutes away from collapsing where she stood. Not
that he was any better. Pale fingers fumbled with the lock,
a sigh of relief escaping his lips as the chain slid in before
dragging his feet to the bedroom, halting midway across the
         living room.

❛ –— WE NEED TO BE up in five
hours, Elsa. C’mon, lets go to sleep, ❜

Elsa almost jumped as his smooth palm slipped into her own, tugging her closer to his side. Still, she smiles, and laces their fingers together, a blush creeping up pale, barely freckled cheeks even now. Her heart beat picked up speed and for a split second she looked away and back again, a non existent strand of hair pushed back into its rightful place behind her ear, bashfully.

                            “What’s this?

juzoic-blog whispered
"Remember, you promised you'd make it out of this alive."

Her heart stops in a chest for a moment as she stares back at him, her grip on her weapon tightening in her fist before she gently sets it down and takes a step towards him. Her eyes don’t leave his until she takes his face in her hands and presses a lingering kiss to his lips because the way he spoke sounded like there is no hope for either of them. And there has to be hope.

                                          “I promise.”

Her eyes open again and reality sets in; she has to leave him however much she might want to stay. So she smiles and steps back, picks up her weapon and takes a few steps away without turning around.

                                          “I’ll see you at home.”

                                                                                                  It’s a promise.

Elsa blinked as he cut off his own explanation half way through speaking and his eyes to her project, which lay mostly in pieces on the work bench. It was complex enough, but nothing a student attending the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology couldn’t understand; that was their reason for being there after all.

“Ah — “ Still a little thrown by his sudden appearance and even more sudden conversational switch, it took her a moment to catch up, and she took an almost protective step towards her work. “That’s my project — I-I’m still working on it, but-”

It took her a moment to realise that he had successfully distracted her from his original unannounced presence in her work room; whether on purpose or by accident she couldn’t tell, but either way she needed to get him away  from her work and out of her room.

“Hang on  — what did you say you were doing here?

♚ —— CRIMSON OPTICS landed on the said project,
visage displaying only mild curiosity. It looked like something related
to Cryokinesis, but it wasn’t really his area of expertise. But it looked
interesting & learning new things was one of the rare few things he
actually liked to do. The abrupt way in which she cut off her response
made it evident that she was the kind that liked to work alone, just
like him, except when he happened to stumble upon interesting things.

              ❛ –— I WAS… LOST, I guess. I mean, I’m new here &
I’m looking for Professor Callahan, so he can assign me a lab.
 ❜

pallid digits buried themselves into his pockets, shrugging as he
spoke. He didn’t see the point of hurrying. He gave her a
fleeting glance before sitting on an empty chair beside the door,
tapping his prosthetic foot on the floor impatiently as orbs
bored into her own,

❛ –— SO, ARE YOU going to help me ? Unless you’re
fine with me staying here, of course. That works too…
 ❜

viinterarchive whispered
"I'm glad you're not dead."

♚ —— ❛ IT’S GOOD to know you’re alive too. ❜ he replied after
what felt like a full minute, vocables drenched in awkwardness,
a sense of deja vu overwhelming him.

“I’d be sad if you died.” the words of his former partner echoed in
his head, along with a surge of emotions. He was the first person
her had grown to care for when he believed he was never capable
of it. & here, before him, was the first person he loved, the first
person he wanted to live for. & he couldn’t push back the fear
that her fate might end up just like the man’s. He wanted her to
be safe, more than anything else in the world, & he meant every
word he said, even though he didn’t tell her how he felt much.

       ❛ –— I’VE GOT a good reason to stay
                                                   alive for, after all.

She watched in confusion as the boy entered her lab. With wide eyes and long hair he looked almost girlish, his short stature meaning she mistook him for a child at first glance. Caught up in trying to decipher his age ( she knew they admitted younger pupils based on talent, but she didn’t think they would be that young ) it took her a moment to approach him; wondering what he was doing wandering into her work space.

“Excuse me?” She took a step closer in an attempt to attract his attention. “Is there…something you need?

♚ —— THE FIRST DAY OF college was something
he had mixed feelings about. He had never officially gone to school,
but working in mama’s labs had proved to be useful to him long after
the organization had been dissolved. & that’s how he ended up in
the hallway, completely lost. Of course, if he hadn’t been late, he
would have caught the receptionist before she went out on a tea
break, but punctuality & discipline wasn’t really his forte.

Crimson optics landed on the only slightly open door in the
hallway, hesitating only momentarily as he stepped inside,
the room’s lighting was slightly dimmer & the temperature
was slightly colder, & for a moment he thought there was
nobody there, only to let out a yelp of surprise as he
suddenly heard a voice, eyes landing on a platinum blonde
               haired girl.

❛ –— UH, YEAH. I’m new here & I think
             I’m los     wait, what’s that ?
