PSA; Dear Roleplayers:

hellsingxmisfits:

You can have small text and nice icons. You can have a beautiful theme and well thought out muse pages. Your muse can be well developed, and you can be an awesome writer. You can be outgoing and generally amazing with communication. You can be independent or write with a certain group of roleplayers. You can have thousands of followers. People can love you, your writing style, and your muses.

However

The second you’re disrespectful towards other roleplayers, their muses, and/or their writing style, you lose any sort of quality you had.

Roleplaying isn’t a competition. It’s a hobby, and it’s supposed to be enjoyable. If you send anonymous hate to other roleplayers because you dislike their styles, what does that say about you as a person? If someone asks if they can do a thread, and you disrespect them by saying, “You’re muse/style isn’t good enough for me,” what does that say about you? It doesn’t make it enjoyable anymore, and you end up hurting people more when you use harsh criticism.

“But I’m only telling them the truth! They should be happy to have their muse critiqued.” And you can critique a muse, but there’s a difference between constructive criticism and being hateful. How can you expect them to grow as a roleplayer when all you tell them is, “Your muse is terrible!“ or “I hate your writing style!” How would anyone grow from this? If you want to give constructive criticism, give them advice. Tell them how they can better develop their muse and their writing. If you don’t want to roleplay with them, fine, but don’t be a bully about it.

You don’t have to actively like every single roleplayer, muse, and/or writing style you come across, that’s okay. It’s called having a preference. There’s a difference between having preferences and just being mean. You can still politely tell them ‘no’. If they don’t back off or respect your choice to say ‘no’, block them

You can’t help what you prefer, but you can help being an ass.
